Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Karim Adeyemi for €22m, describing the move as a masterstroke to strengthen their attacking options. The German forward joins after impressive performances in the Bundesliga and has already been registered to compete in La Liga and the Champions League this season. The club’s hierarchy praised his pace, movement off the ball, and finishing as key attributes for Hansi Flick’s tactical setup.
Adeyemi made his first appearance for the team in the recent match against Levante, coming on in the 88th minute and providing the assist for Barcelona’s fourth goal in a 4-2 away win. The goal came from a swift team move initiated by Marc Bernal, who found Adeyemi in space inside the box to finish calmly past the goalkeeper. That goal marked the German’s sixth contribution in his first ten days with the club, counting friendlies and official matches.
This signing arrives amid a flawless start to the season for Barcelona, who top La Liga with 15 points from five wins, including a 5-0 victory over Valencia and a 5-1 win against Feyenoord in Champions League. Adeyemi will compete for a starting role in the front three alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, who have been the team’s leading scorers so far. His addition aims to add depth and tactical variety to an attack already averaging over four goals per game.
Hansi Flick explained that Adeyemi’s versatility to play on either wing or as a second striker gives him additional options in demanding matches, especially when facing low-block defences. The German head coach emphasised in press conferences that the signing is not a reaction to an immediate need but part of a medium-term plan to sustain competitiveness throughout the campaign.
With this move, Barcelona reinforces its strategy of investing in young talents with international potential, following recent signings like Marc Bernal and Héctor Fort. Adeyemi, aged 23, signs a contract running until 2029 with a release clause set at €400m.
The forward has already integrated into training and will travel with the squad to Santander for the upcoming league match against Racing Santander on 16 September. He will wear the number 18 shirt, previously worn by Ansu Fati before his loan move to Brighton. Fans can follow his progress via the club’s official channels, including the updated squad page and the fixtures list for forthcoming games.
