The President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa, welcomed the decision. He said it was great news for Barcelona and for Catalunya, which continues to establish itself as an international reference in organising major sporting events. He added that sport projects Catalunya in the world and generates opportunities for the whole country.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Sport, Berni Álvarez, highlighted the collaborative work behind the bid. He explained that hosting the 2029 Champions League final is great news for Catalan sport. He noted that from the Department of Sport of the Generalitat de Catalunya they have worked alongside FC Barcelona, Barcelona City Council and the RFEF to make it possible. It will be a magnificent venue for another major event that Catalunya will host.

A Calendar of Top-Tier Events

The designation strengthens Catalunya's profile as a destination for elite competitions. In recent years, the region has hosted the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, the America's Cup sailing event, Formula 1 and Moto GP Grands Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya, the Conde de Godó tennis trophy, the Barcelona Marathon and Half Marathon, and the CSIO equestrian event. It is also scheduled to host matches for the 2030 World Cup.

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta thanked Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Royal Spanish Football Federation for their support in making the event a reality. The 2029 final will be a milestone for the club.
