Quim Junyent has left Barcelona after 10 years at La Masia. The young Catalan midfielder joins UD Almería on a free transfer, with a long-term contract until 2032.

What happened?

Junyent had been in negotiations with Almería since January, but the transfer was not completed until now. The 19-year-old player had been key for Juvenil A and Barça Atletic, and also played an important role in Barcelona's UEFA Youth League triumph.

Why it matters for Barcelona

Junyent's departure reflects a increasingly common trend among academy graduates who choose to pursue opportunities elsewhere due to the fierce competition for places in Barcelona's first team. The Catalan team tops La Liga with 94 points and an 8-point lead over Real Madrid, after a season with 95 goals scored and 36 conceded, and a recent run of 2 wins and 3 losses in their last 5 games, including a 3-1 loss to Valencia on May 23.

What comes next?

Junyent joins Almería with the aim of playing regular senior football under coach García Pimienta, who has experience at Barcelona and is known for developing technically gifted players. Almería is seeking promotion in the 2026-27 season, and Junyent's signing is their fourth in this regard.
