FC Barcelona has announced the extension of goalkeeper Viktor Hallgrímsson's contract until June 30, 2029. The 26-year-old Icelandic player, who signed a two-year deal last summer, will now remain with the club for an additional three seasons.
Outstanding Performance
Hallgrímsson concluded the previous Asobal league season with the best save percentage of the championship, achieving a 37% success rate. Additionally, he surpassed the 30% intervention mark in the Champions League (30.96%), solidifying his status as one of the continent's top goalkeepers. The goalkeeper also contributed to winning all seven titles that the team contested during their first year under the blaugrana banner.
Optimism and Commitment
The player expressed great satisfaction with the renewal, stating it was always his objective to work towards extending his contract. "I am very happy. This was always my goal when I signed a two-year deal: working to extend my time here for longer," he said.
Stability and Partnership
Hallgrímsson also spoke about the stability he has found both on and off the pitch, stating that it was hard to imagine being anywhere else. "It was hard to imagine being anywhere else. The city, the club, my teammates, everything I like here is where I am," he indicated.
Future Prospects
The goalkeeper also welcomed Sergey Hernández as a new teammate, with whom he will form the Barcelona's goalkeeper duo in the coming seasons. "I have only heard positive things about him. He has played in Magdeburg with many of my Icelandic teammates and they speak highly of him. I believe we will make a great combination," concluded Hallgrímsson.
