FC Barcelona has condemned the disproportionate use of force by the Police during the detention of a blue-green supporter before the match between Elche and Barcelona, which took place at Estadio Martínez Valero. The police removed a flag from the supporter and beat him several times. The club condemned the detention, calling it "disproportionate" and "incongruent", and has offered support to the detained fan and his family.
Barcelona maintains that the flag is a legal symbol and that its display constitutes a legitimate exercise of freedom of expression, not an incitement to violence. The club laments that, once again, police officers have seized flag-bearing supporters.
The club’s statement concludes that it awaits the appropriate explanations and reserves the right to take the actions it deems necessary to defend the integrity, rights and freedom of expression of its members and supporters, both at the Spotify Camp Nou and at rival teams’ stadiums.
