Barcelona announces that their Swedish winger Roony Bardghji will need surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury occurred during the team's training session on Monday, ahead of the start of the season in LaLiga. The club confirmed that the 20-year-old player will undergo surgery in the coming days, but did not give an estimated recovery time. Barcelona was negotiating the loan of the player to another club. Bardghji arrived last year from Copenhague, with whom he won three Danish league titles and two Danish Cups. During the 2025-26 season, he played 28 official matches, scoring two goals and providing four assists. He signed a contract with Barcelona until 2029. The club stated upon his arrival that Bardghji's rise was temporarily hindered by a knee injury that kept him away from the pitch for almost a year. ## When will Bardghji be back? It is the second time that the Swedish player has suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee. The first time occurred in April 2024 and the player was back in March 2025; in total, 56 official matches were lost between his club and the Swedish national team. For this new injury, Barcelona did not give a recovery time, but a minimum estimate of six months, that is, in the best scenario, he would be back in February 2027. However, in the worst scenario, Roony will be out for the entire season and will return to activity until May 2027. ## When does the Barcelona season start? The start of the 2026-27 season in LaLiga is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, however, Barcelona reprogrammed their Matchday 1 against Athletic Bilbao until Thursday, August 27.
